There is a saying in sprintcar racing that goes; there are a lot more lows than highs. For James McFadden and the Scott Milling owned Totally Workwear Racing team they are currently riding a huge wave form, and are enjoying every minute of it. This wave of form has seen them over the Christmas / New Year period dominate the ‘Speedweek Series’, which coincides with the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship that currently has McFadden holding down a comfortable lead in the overall point standings, and saw them out of the five rounds land in victory lane on four occasions (Speedway City, Borderline Speedway, Avalon Raceway and Premier Speedway). If it hadn’t have been for being involved in someone’s accident on the second night at Murray Bridge Speedway, it quite possibly could have been a clean sweep. On that unfortunate occasion, McFadden suffered top wing and front end damage, which were both replaced during red light stoppages, and still managed to salvage a creditable seventh place finish. Although he is currently driving outstandingly, the NQ # 25 Totally Workwear Midland & VIC Park supported COOL driver was quick to heap praise on the entire Totally Workwear Racing team that he has in his corner. “A driver is only a strong as the team that he has around him, and I certainly wouldn’t be enjoying this run of form if it wasn’t for their support,” the 21-year-old conceded, who pointed out that crew chief Glen Beaton has been doing an outstanding job putting a great car under him on a consistent basis. “It’s the continual hard work of my entire team, along with the engine and car package, and sponsors who are all working in the one direction, and this is clearly evident going by the results that we are achieving.” In regards to pin pointing one major factor to attribute to his current form as a driver, McFadden was quick to say that his team efforts has enabled him to turn his consistent speed into actual results. “We’ve always had the speed, but now we are converting that into consistent results by being able to qualify higher up in the feature race field and go on with the job,” he said. “Yes, there is an element of luck that comes into sprintcar racing, but there are a lot of lows and highs in this sport, so when you are on a form streak, it’s just something that you enjoy. It’s a lot more fun for everyone on the team when you are winning, and having fun is the main reason why we do what we do.” McFadden, who currently enjoys a solid buffer over his nearest rival of 459 points in the WSS Championship point standings and is currently on track to become the first driver in the 25 year history of the WSSS Championship to win the overall points battle as a non-contracted entrant, returns to home soil, Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway in Queensland, this Wednesday night (January 4) for the Capalaba Wreckers $10,000 to win event. Following this event will be the resumption of the WSS Championship with round nine this Friday and Saturday night (January 6 and 7) that doubles up as the Australian Open. With close to $20,000 up for grabs over the next week at Archerfield Speedway, McFadden and the team are not only eager, but quietly confident, of depositing their fair share of money into their ever expanding bank account. McFadden would like to thank his car owner Scott Milling, parents Dave and Tania, crew chief Glen Beaton, and crew members Crackers and Alex, along with his valued sponsors: Totally Workwear Midland & VIC Park, Western Diamond Drillers, AUS FUEL GULL, Lucas Oil Products Inc, Allstar Performance, Astro Titanium, KRE Race Engines, OMP, Racer Industries and COOL Chassis, for all of their ongoing support in the 2011/12 season.
