Wild West Motorsports Park, the multi-use racing facility carved out of a hilly landfill in Sparks, Nevada, already is one of the most interesting and entertaining tracks in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series presented by GEICO.
It should be pretty easy to find Top Fuel rookie Richie Crampton at this weekend's 30th annual Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park; he'll be the one with the endless smile on his face.
The learning curve for GEICO/Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster driver Richie Crampton hit a speed bump during the first round of the NHRA Gatornationals on Sunday at Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville. Crampton, a rookie in Top Fuel, left a touch too soon in his matchup with Morgan Lucas Racing teammate Morgan Lucas, allowing his team owner and the man he replaced in the GEICO/Lucas Oil dragster to get the win.
The only way Lucas Oil/GEICO Top Fuel dragster driver Morgan Lucas would have enjoyed the NHRA Gatornationals Sunday at Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville any more would have been if he ended up in victory lane. Lucas came up two rounds short of that, but he was all smiles after a semifinal appearance in his first race of 2014.
The NHRA Gatornationals this weekend at Auto-Plus Raceway at Gainesville has been a case of good news, bad news for GEICO/Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster driver Richie Crampton. First, the good news: The 33-year-old rookie snagged his best qualifying effort of his young career with a No. 3 spot after a pass of 3.816 seconds at 316.97 mph.
